According to data from the Association of Information Systems Professionals, the average annual salary for a business intelligence analyst is $60,000, and for a machine learning analyst, the figure is $40,000.
Those numbers are all from the 2017 annual report, but they’re also based on a survey of more than 200 AI employees, and a similar survey by the Association for Computing Machinery.
The AI workers’ median annual salary is about $62,000 — more than $4,000 more than the average AI salary for full-time employees, the report said.
That salary also beats out the median salaries of AI employees for software engineers, according to the survey, which included the median annual income of those same employees for all three roles, according of the AI Salary Survey 2017.AI, or artificial intelligence, is a new field that encompasses the creation and manipulation of information in a variety of ways.
The field is particularly attractive to companies who are looking to hire more people for AI roles, said David Golledge, a senior vice president of software engineering at Google, in an interview with Business Insider.AI and Machine Learning Machines and algorithms are powerful tools that have been developing over the past decade.
But while the tools are growing, they’re not as powerful as they were 10 years ago, and some AI talent may struggle to find a job that is challenging enough to attract the right talent, Gollendes said.
AI is also still very young, he said.
“There are still a lot of opportunities for new talent to come into the AI space,” he said, but the hiring pipeline is still relatively young.
For example, there are fewer AI positions available now than there were five years ago because of the tech bubble.
Golledge said that if AI is to be successful, it needs to be in demand, and it needs people who are willing to take risks to try new things.
The jobs market for AI talent is a mess.
The top 10 AI-related job openings in the United States in 2017 were not jobs that require a specific skill set, but rather positions that required a degree in AI, the Association said.AI has had an upswing over the last several years, but there are still plenty of AI talent that isn’t working for companies, Gopinath said.
He said there’s a lot to be learned from what’s happened with the recent surge in AI talent, which has been a great boon to the field.
Gopinsath said that it’s important for companies to be proactive in getting AI talent in.
“We need to be able to attract people to AI,” he told Business Insider in a phone interview.
“That means hiring people that are able to come in and be part of the team and be innovative, and that means being innovative in their own way.”
